Wedding: Marie & Mike

Mike and Marie were married in October, with the ceremony at a small church in Port Coquitlam, followed a reception at the always wonderful Swan-e-Set Bay Resort and Country Club out in Pitt Meadows. We’d love to tell you it was one of those picture perfect fall days…. well it was fall…and if you like lots and lots and lots of rain… then it was perfect :-)
But the double M’s are one of those great couples that just shrug the rain off as no biggy, and go about getting married and committing to each other with big smiles on their faces all day long, regardless of the weather.

So for the first time this year, the entire day was shot indoors or undercover. Because we couldn’t utilize the otherwise gorgeous grounds at Swan-e-Set, we had to improvise with some romantic shots in the clubhouse.

A beautiful smile despite the rain

A future bride and groom

This church was very photogenic. We loved it!!

Marie kicking it back

A romantic interlude by the window

The rings, surrounded by rose petals

We love doing these kinds of shots. The more romance the better!!!!

Earlier in the summer we met them up at Burnaby Mountain Park near SFU. Now that was a beautiful September summer day.

Folsom Family

While in San Francisco, Tanya and I travelled to Folsom, a suburb of Sacramento (the capital of California). For those that know me, the software company I work for has its headquarters in Folsom so I’m down fairly often. Folsom is best know for it’s prison (thanks to Johnny Cash), but is a great family-friendly suburb.

While there we spent a couple hours in an area known as Old Folsom photographing the Berti family. The weather was great and a very slight overcast sky made for great lighting. We were down by the river and then moved off to the local ‘zoo’ to complete the morning.
Here are some higlights:

San Francisco treat

Many of you have heard me go on about this trip for the longest time – I have been looking forward to this workshop since April and the opportunity to work with a couple of world renowned photographers – a chance to learn from two of photographers who’s craftsmanship I aspire to.
On our first day of photographing we went to a place called the image lounge in Pleasant Hill, California a home that has been transformed to an incredible studio space. We were all taken aside individually and given just two minutes to photograph a model in the room and that image would later be critiqued in the classroom. This is the image I submitted for critique. It scored really well!

On the second day we drove into San Francisco and rented a cable car to visit various sites in the downtown financial/shopping district. We formed into small groups and took turns photographing different models.
I had a fabulous time, made some amazing new friends and I am looking forward to using the concepts that we were taught to create stunning images.

Here are the critiqued images.
