We’re in TVWeek!!

OK, not us, but our photography is :-)
Maybe you’ve seen the latest TVWeek in the grocery store checkout? The one with Steve Darling and his new bride Jen on the cover?

We had the privilege of photographing Steve and his bride Jen’s wedding a couple of weeks ago.
Steve is the morning anchor of the top-rated B.C. morning news show on Global and yes, his personality is exactly as he projects on the news each morning. Both he and Jen were absolutely fantastic to work with - letting us do our thing and accept all our photography ideas and recommendations without hesitation.
Despite the fact that it was the hottest day in 8 years and we sweated our way through the day, we got tons of great posed and candid shots of them, the wedding party, the parents, the reception hall details, you name it.

Once the day was over and we said our good-byes, we immediately began working our way through the images and preparing them for TVWeek. They sent a courier to the studio to pick up the CD of images early Monday morning, as they had to have the images selected and layout complete by Tuesday night in order to hit their deadlines (the issue hit the stands Friday morning). Ummm, yeah, not a lot of sleep that weekend :-)
Due to the time constraints involved, we could not get Steve and Jen back into the studio to see the images, so they left it up to us to narrow the list down for TVWeek. In fact the first time they saw any images occurred Friday morning when they stopped in at a store on their way back from Whistler. (Thankfully they loved them all)

It required a lot of coordination with TVWeek and we admit to being apprehensive about handing so much creative control of our photography over to someone else - but the TVWeek staff did an excellent job of selecting images and laying them out. Given that the magazine isn’t printed on photography stock, we’re still very happy with how it turned out. Special thanks to our main contact and Art Director at TVWeek, David Claydon.

You’ll have to read the issue to learn more about their wedding and their very unusual engagement story. :-)
It’s definitely weird standing in the check-out line at Safeway and watching the woman in front of you leaf through the pages, looking at the images. Is it uncool to tap her on the shoulder and say “hey, we took those”??

Of course TVWeek couldn’t print everything, so here are a few more of our favourites:

One Jen isn’t enough.

Ice Cream is always a good choice when it’s 36 degrees outside (and you’re wearing a suit).

The very cool cake, with their initials as toppers.

A BIG BIG thank you to Jen and Steve for permitting us to cover their day - it was an honor (and a blast).

Tanya and Jeff

FIFI 2006

This year marked the 3rd Annual FIFI (Friends Invting Females Invitational) at Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club.

The FIFI idea was sparked by Paddy Venturis in April of 2004 when she decided that it would be fun to get a group of 50 female friends together to experience a day of golf at the course she considers home, Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club. However, the event soon took on a new purpose when in May of 2004 a friend was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After the shock of the news, Paddy began to wonder if this day of fun golf could be a way of giving something back. With most of the ladies all ready involved having being touched by this dreadful enemy we know as Cancer, the task of raising a few dollars for Cancer research was embarked upon.

On July 14, 2004 after a lot of hard work and effort by many contributors, the 1st FIFI event was held which included 144 golfers and 225 ladies for dinner, a 50/50 draw, raffles, a silent auction. What was only a few months before a small get together had turned into an EVENT that raised just over $12,000 in its first year. In it’s second year the event raised over $35,000 for the BC and Yukon Cancer Society.

This year the tournament was held on July 13th and over $50,000 was raised for Cancer research (still waiting on final number as of posting this). Even though the ladies had to endure rain, hail, wind and cold temperatures their spirits weren’t dampened and a fantastic time was had by all. Thanks to the ladies for being such good sports at our hole and for being so creative with their posing ideas and team names. Thanks to my “assistant extraordinaire” Tara for sticking it out in the rain and for taking great candids of the golfers.

Once again it was our pleasure to be involved and we look forward to next year’s tournament and raising the bar yet again to raise even more money. For more information on the event or if you wish to get involved as a volunteer, visit the official website here. To see all of the images from FIFI 2006 log onto our website and in the client access box type: FIFI2006

Below are some images from the tournament.

Is it true what they say?

One of my favorite teams - they come every year and always have a good time!

This day is about friendship!

Wedding: Ashlee & Kevin

These crazy kids actually had their big day back in May. Yeah, we’re just a weeee bit behind in our posting…
And I use the term “weeee” on purpose, because kevin is actually just a “weeee” bit Scottish. :-) The kilt proves it. Well, that and his Scottish parents.

Everything was held at the swanky and upscale Swan-e-Set Bay Resort and Country Club out in Pitt Meadows. The day was an absolutely picture perfect May day (sunny and warm, but not too hot) and the location was gorgeous (to match the bride of course).

Ashlee and Kevin took the option of having their portrait session taken before the ceremony. This meant they saw each other before the ceremony. This is a popular option for the non-traditional couple. It means they can focus on each other for a few minutes, without the distraction of 200 pairs of eyes staring at them. It also means we can do the portrait session earlier in the day, freeing everyone up to move directly from ceremony to reception to merryment.

Congratulations Ashlee and Kevin and thank you so much for allowing us to cover the day. You guys are a blast. And as the Scottish saying goes - Be happy while you’re living, For you’re a long time dead.

It’s quite the process to getting dressed in a Kilt.

Kevin seeing Ashlee for the first time that day.

Lots of laughs all day long.

Sealing the deal.

A romantic stroll

More romance

Even more romantic.
