Pitter Patter!

Welcome to the world baby Amélia! It was such a pleasure to photograph you with your Mom and Dad. They are so excited that you have arrived – even though they get less sleep (ok a lot less sleep) and have mountains of soiled sleepers to wash! It is fascinating to watch your parents receive your sweet smile – waiting for your little personality to emerge. They marvel at your super-human strength – your grip around their fingers (although I think it is you that has them wrapped around your finger)! These last couple of months are a blur to them and if they are lucky the rest won’t go by so fast!

In an attempt to preserve your “newness” in their world, I had the opportunity to capture some of your fleeting moments so that the very night your Mom and Dad hand you the keys to the family car, and you go off on your grown-up adventures, they can sit down and remember every moment and every milestone.

Amélia, be easy on your Mom and Dad - they are new at this! If they thought it was hard now, wait until a year from now when you’re mobile…

Baby Lola

Back in February we wrote a post congratulating long time clients Krista and Rod Langtry on the birth of their second daughter Lola Elizabeth. We promised that we would post some images once we had photographed Lola. We ended up doing two sessions with Lola – one with her big sister Emma and then with Mommy.

The thing I love about photographing babies is that you just never know what you’re going to get! Sometimes they decide to sleep, sometimes they cry, and sometimes they smile during the entire session. Lola did neither.

We have had the opportunity to work with Lola’s sister and her family many times! So, I was anticipating an easy session since they know the drill and we know how to get them to respond to the camera. Lola was having a troubling day and couldn’t keep any milk down – so instead Krista and I both wore more milk than Lola drank!

Whatever the circumstance, a patient photographer prevails and between spit-up, we managed to get quite a few cute shots of Lola.

Chevy & Vincent

Chevy and Vincent are one of the sweetest and cutest couples – and one of the most organized!

We met them in December 2004 – when they visited the studio looking for a wedding photographer. Like I said, these two are organized and have been planning their wedding for some time! It is no wonder they started the planning process so early as Vincent has been completing his Doctor of Pharmacy Degree at UBC (and just graduated on May 30th – yeah Vincent, whoa, whoa, whoa!) We are so proud of you!

Chevy and Vincent are getting married on July 1st 2006 at St. Augustine ‘s Catholic Church in Vancouver and their reception is being hosted at Swan-e-set Bay Resort and Country Club in Pitt Meadows. Keep posted for some of our favourite images from their wedding day!

We took this adorable couple to Yaletown for their Engagement Portrait Session (aka “getting-to-know-you-session”). We photographed them like paparazzi and made them play all kinds of fun games to loosen them up. We all had a good laugh at the preview session at the resulting images. Below are some highlights from the session with them.

We look forward to your special day!

It’s a girl!

Congratulations go out to new clients of ours, Anik and Thomas , who are proud parents of baby Amélia who was born on April 11th weighing 6lbs 15 oz. This is Anik and Thomas’ first child – so we anticipate them trying get a routine down and getting used to midnight feedings and a lack of sleep! We can’t wait to meet Amélia and photograph her for the first time!

I met Anik at one of our studio events - she was the guest of a family portrait client. She was pregnant at the time and had an opportunity to see our pregnancy portfolio while she visited the studio. I was thrilled when she called to arrange her pregnancy portrait session with her husband Thomas. Anik looked absolutely radiant in her portraits – I’ll be sure to ask her if we can post an image from her session.

If you are ever visiting the West Vancouver area be sure to visit Thomas’ children’s clothing store called Third & Park located at 1030 Park Royal South.

Way to go kids!

Getting Focused

How many of you lay awake at night with visions of operating at optimum efficiency? How many times have you lost sleep because you can’t remember where you put an important number or those tickets to a rock concert. Let’s be simple and realistic – how many of you can’t even find your keys in the morning?

As many of you know I am a very organized and detailed person – ok, ok, so I have a type A personality! But there are still days where there is so much going on and so many clients to take care of that even I worry that I have forgotten something - anything. I am reminded by the humorous approach my parents had of blaming it on age and the onset of senility – well I’m too young for that.

We have always had great systems for things but as time goes on and the business grows we are continuously improving systems – even systems that already work. To accommodate continued business growth it has been my mission to achieve more focus by creating balance and increased productivity within the studio. That’s when I met Sherry Borsheim, professional organizer extraordinaire!

Sherry and I met at a networking breakfast where I was introduced to her and her book “Conquer your Chaos – fast forward to office efficiency”. I get excited about anything related to organization so I was elated to snap up a copy of her book and start putting her principles into action. Our office operates at optimum efficiency now and thanks to Sherry’s workbook I can go to bed at night experiencing a new piece of mind.

After reading and implementing Sherry’s principles of organization one question comes to mind: How many of you have thousands of family photographs and old negatives scattered around the house? Sherry can help you out with all of your organizing needs – even those unorganized photographs!

Whether it be in your professional or personal life I challenge you all to achieve more focus. To get a copy of Sherry’s book visit her website at www.simplyproductive.com .
