Wedding: Jen & Rico

Our last wedding of the year happened to also be our coldest. Everyone in Vancouver knows that winter can be a real mixed bag, but Jen and Rico were very fortunate to have a nice sunny day for their wedding, rather than the typical rainy day we usually get.

But, it was cold! This was in stark contrast to our Mexico wedding three days earlier. Did we mention it was cold. Jen and her bridesmaid’s noticed too. :-)
The ceremony was held on a Saturday afternoon at the Holy Rosary Cathedral in downtown Vancouver. It’s an absolutely stunning church, both on the outside and in, and it makes for great wide-angle shots.

After the ceremony, the bridal party made their way to the Hotel Le Soleil, where Jen and Rico checked into a penthouse suite that they reserved for the evening. This being our first visit to LeSoleil, a quaint boutique hotel, we were impressed by its elegance, sophistication and cosmopolitan style. If you’re looking for a local romantic get-away - this is definitely a swanky place to stay and enjoy the sights and nightlife of downtown.

Here’s Rico relaxing in the lobby…

Speaking of Mexico, Rico is originally from Mazatlan, Mexico. Would you believe that Jen met Rico while on vacation with her parents? Their love story was recounted by Jen’s Mom who stated that it was love at first sight. Jen and Rico met at a restaurant where Jen was having dinner with her family in Mexico and smitten with him she spent most of her vacation getting to know Rico better. When Rico telephoned Jen after her family returned to Canada Mom and Dad realized just how serious this vacation fling was! After courting over the phone, Rico visited Canada and the rest as they say is history.

So with the last of the sun quickly fading away, we hopped back in the Limo with Jen and Rico to take some romantic images of just the two of them. We opted for Gastown as it was close by and is a great location to get the fashion-inspired romantic images we and Jen were looking for.

Swinging back to the hotel to pick up the rest of the crew, the wedding party arrived for the cocktail reception at Sugar and Sugar. Sugar and Sugar, just on the west edge of Gastown, is part art gallery, part event facility, part lounge. It’s a very chic place to hold a wedding reception, with it’s minimalist decor and multi-level design. The facility contained lots of little intimate rooms to steal a moment away for some quick images.

Congratulations to Jen and Rico: two of the most wonderful and genuine people we have ever met. We had a blast and thanks for allowing us the opportunity to document your day….

Wedding: Victoria & Darryl

As promised, here are some of our favourites from Victoria and Darryl’s wedding in Huatulco, Mexico. What an absolutely glorious hot, humid day, for a wedding on the beach. We began the afternoon photographing the bride getting ready and shortly thereafter the ceremony began at 4:30pm - just in time to allow it to cool off at least a couple degrees. After the ceremony was finished the couple and their guests shared cool margaritas and a couple of toasts before finishing with portraits on the beach at sunset. The reception was held at the private Gala Royal Club overlooking the ocean with a delicious sit down candle light dinner. The evening ended with the couple making their grand exit wearing only bathing suits and smiles!

About 30 family and friends attended the all-inclusive resort, most for a week, some lucky souls stayed for two. What an amazing testament to their character that so many friends and family elected to fly down to attend the special day. We are also very thankful for the opportunity to preserve the day for Darryl and Victoria so that those that couldn’t attend may at least experience their wedding through the photographs we captured.

BTW, we love the heat!!! And this was confirmed 3 days after Victoria and Darryl’s wedding when we photographed another wedding, but this time in about 3 degrees (rather than 30) :-)

Hola

We’re back…happy..relaxed…thankful for the opportunity to experience Huatulco, Mexico…and just a little burnt in the shoulders…

Darryl and Victoria are the couple from Vancouver Island who decided to elope with 30 family and friends to Mexico - and we are very thankful to them for the opportunity. We’ll save the details and pictures from their wedding for a follow-up post, once we’ve had a chance to process them. :-)
We spent a week at the all-inclusive Gala resort in Huatulco, which is located along the west coast of Mexico, south of Acapulco. It’s not at all what we expected, meaning it was very green and lush, not desert-like, and very beautiful with a very ‘authentic’ feel, not built up or commercialized. The two small towns nearby are very quaint and quiet, without a Tim Horton’s or McDonalds in site. In other words, a perfect location to ‘get away from it all’

As time permits over the next few weeks, we’ll provide more texture to our trip by way of posts and pictures.
For now we just want to say how overwhelmed we are by the level of service we and everyone that went experienced at the Gala Resort. It’s 6-star service in a nice 4-star hotel.

And now, back to Christmas orders….
