Wedding: Alisa & John

The absolutely beautiful and photogenic Alisa (oh yes, and John ;-) ) were married at Swan-E-Set Bay Resort & Country Club last fall.
We are just getting around to posting some of our favourite images. Notice a pattern with us? Hmmm.. But it’s all changing. We’ve hired a nanny and one of our goals is to be more up to date and varied in our blog posts. So back to Alisa and John….

One unusual event with their wedding was that they both actually got ready at our home - which made it a little easier for us to scout locations :-)

Alisa and John were in the wedding party of a previous wedding and it’s always a lot of fun for us when the bridal party overlaps like it did. It’s like we get to spend the day hanging out with good friends…

A cool shot of Alisa’s dress

The girl’s first look at Alisa in her gown

Oooohhhhhhh

We love this shot, with John just silhoutted in the background…
And fantastic wicked veil. Yeah Alisa!!

A candid momemt at the entrance to Swan-E-Set

Ooohh, an even more candid moment. Blush…

Mmmmmmm… cake…… (by Justine’s Sugar Lane Cakes)

The ceremony outdoors. It couldn’t have been a better day with the weather

Obviously as soon as you get married you go off to play a round of golf

These are a couple of balcony shots inside at Swan-E-Set. We love this place!!!

Congratulations you two!!!

Wedding: Sandra & Rohan

Our lovely couple with the movie star looks got themselves hitched a few weeks back and we’ve got tons of great images to prove it.

The service was held at the Holy Rosary Cathedral downtown Vancouver.

The formals and wedding party shots were all in Yaletown, with Cioppino’s Mediterranean Grill serving as a fantastic backgrop for some cool shots.

And finally the reception was held at the Four Seasons Hotel. Wow!! What an interior. We look forward to shooting there again. Hint hint to future brides :-)

Wedding: Marlene & Rick

Actually, we’ll include some of their engagement images as well….
Rick and Marlene were married in March, and living in the Tri-Cities area they kept everything local (which was fantastic for us as everything was close by and it was our first wedding since Alexia was born, so being near her was comforting.)

The engagement session was a nice sunny day in February in and around Newport Village, especially in their favourite pub/eatery St. James’s Well. They were gracious enough to let us photograph Rick and Marlene grabbing a quick bite to eat.

The wedding was another rain-free affair, sunny with a few clouds, and a little on the cool side. It’s always nice when the winter weather can cooperate like that.
The ceremony was at St.Clare’s Parish while the reception was held at the always great Westwood Plateau golf course.

Wedding: Shannon & Keith

Shannon and Keith were actually married back in December, on a rare beautiful sunny day, but boy was it cold.
As in barely above freezing. And Shannon was amazing in dealing with the temperature. We were bundled up with gloves and scarves, and there she was standing out in the frost and snow with bare arms and exposed legs. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…….

The wedding and reception took place at the Whonnock Lake Centre.

Wedding: Stefanie & Nick

Now to follow-up with Stefanie and Nick’s engagement session with images from their actual wedding day.

As has been the case for what seems like most of the summer, the weather was umm, “ify” to say the least. Just another standard overcast summer Saturday in Vancouver. With an afternoon outdoor ceremony right on the dock next to the Burnaby Lake Pavilion, it was important that the rain hold off and allow a dry ceremony.

Well of course about an hour before the ceremony, the rain came pounding down. And of course, 15 minutes before the ceremony was to start, the rain stopped. There had been a mad scramble to rent some tents to cover the guests, the bride, and possibly the groom (though it was getting a little tight in there so he may have been pushed out) but with the rain stoppage we took the risk of removing the tents. All worked out well and the images turned out far better than had we needed to work under cover of a few party tents.

After the ceremony we took off to take some more urban gritty images in New Westminster. Aside from a few sprinkles, we managed to do pretty well and captured a lot of really cool stuff.

Back to the pavilion for the reception and party, we later stole the two of them for a few more shots right on the dock. It can be tough on the bride and groom after a long day, the stress of the weather, always having to smile, the continous click of the camera shutters and then to have the photographers whisk them away from the party, the guests, the drinks for yet more photos because the photographers have a really cool idea and can they please trust us and yes it will all be worth it.

And yes it was….

We thought we’d include an image of the guys getting ready for change…
This is the groom…

Stef, a brief moment of introspection and anticipation

There’s that sexy look of hers…

Hey, kids and puppies sell, so our marketing department says we have to include them…

Well, clearly we’ve established who wears the pants in this relationship…

Ahhhh, very picturesque (and no rain in sight)

Just strolling along a New Westminster parking lot (above Front St).

In fact, this is now a ritual for them. Yup, we heard every Saturday they just like to find parking lots, walk down the middle of the lanes holding hands and pretending there’s a couple of photographers catching every glance between them. Sometimes Stef makes Nick dress up (she can do that because, well, as we said it appears she wears the pants….)

One of our favourites…

We like this one too…

Nothing inappropriate is being done or said here. Move along people…

Now for some more romantic stuff near the courthouse

OK, so we’re back on the dock at Burnaby Lake. This is Nick’s “she wants me” look.

Finally we end with two shots on the rowing dock - the kind of shots where the bride and groom have to put their faith in us because it looks silly and feels silly to them. And besides, they had unfinished drinks back in the pavilion.
But seriously, these ones are our true favourites.

 Congrats guys!

P.S. We’d like to do a special shout-out to Natalie. Natalie has made an astonishing three appearances in wedding parties we’ve photographed in the last two years. She’s always smiling, cheerful and helpful to the bride. We look forward to the day we photograph her wedding (cause she’ll be a great bride, and we’re expecting her entire wedding party to be former brides of ours - not that we’d want to influence her bridesmaids choices or anything….)

Wedding: Lisa & Ben

You remember Lisa and Ben from the previous post. He’s from Australia, she’s from Vancouver but they were living in Melbourne. After their wedding this past July, they moved on to England to continue their world adventures, only this time with a little additional weight on their fingers…

The ceremony was a quick drive away for us, being that it was held in Port Moody at the St. John the Apostle Anglican Church. After the ceremony, the wedding party and immediate family drove up to Burnaby Mountain. A beautiful spot to take family photos and capture some fun and intimate moments of Ben and Lisa.

Back into the cars we went for the quick zip over to the reception held at the SFU Diamond Alumni Centre where much fun and laughter was had by all. (except the part where we misplaced a lens, hunted around for it, couldn’t find it, chalked it up to one of those things that happens, phoned the Diamond Alumni Centre the next day, and they said they found a lens when they were cleaning up - it always works out :-) )
Here is a selection of some favourites of ours from their wedding day.

The family dog always has to steal the spotlight, even if it is for just a couple of quick poses.

A quick drink of courage at the St. James Well pub in Newport Village

A very proud pappa

Wedding: Bella and David

Also married in July was Bella and David - this couple is so easy to work with - they are willing to do anything! We covered a good part of the city with this wedding.

Bella and David’s ceremony took place at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Vancouver. Following the ceremony both families headed to Trout Lake Park in Vancouver for a picnic lunch while we photographed family portraits in between sandwiches and watermelon!

The rest of the afternoon was spent taking a leisurely Water Taxi ride through False Creek to Science World. Try finding a Water taxi to take a group of 10 people on a busy Saturday afternoon. Luckily, the captain, seeing a bride and groom, sent for a larger boat. When there is a wedding dress and tuxedo involved no one can resist the opportunity to make the day extra special!

We photographed the wedding party and bride and groom around Science World and then back on the water taxi for more photos at Stamps Landing. We finished the afternoon stopping for Gelato - which left the bride and groom refreshed before the reception! Newlyweds are so cute - they even share their ice cream.

The night carried on at the Hellenic Centre on Arbutus in Vancouver. A big Thank you to Gentleman Jim’s Limousine Service for accomodating the many locations we visited!

Wedding: Sarah & Kevin

Sarah and Kevin were married in early July. (I know, I know… we are well behind in our postings and figured we better do some catching up :).

On the day of the wedding, we met Sarah and Kevin at Minoru Chapel just before the ceremony to catch the guests arriving. It was a perfect weather day and we had the photography itinerary planned out down to the minute just to fit in all the locations we planned to visit along the way. After the couple exchanged their vows we headed into the park for some quick photos and then traveled to the location of Sarah and Kevin’s first date. A few years back they had written their names on a rock under a Richmond Bridge so we re-created that special date right down to the bright red jiffy marker (photo below)!

As you may have read from a previous blog entry, Kevin recently re-certified his pilot’s license and flew us for pie to Chilliwack. So of course we visited Iona Beach since it was close to the airport and presented a hopeful opportunity to see planes overhead. Every time one passed Kevin would tell us the call sign - which we were quite impressed by.

The reception was held at Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club in Richmond . It was at Sarah and Kevin’s wedding that I developed a new craving of Jelly Bellies candies. They had candy dishes at the head table enticing me every time I whisked by to take a photo. I have to thank Sarah and Kevin as after the wedding they dropped off a very large container of Jelly Bellies to the studio. Now, everyone else is hooked! PS. I will leave you all of the popcorn flavoured ones Sarah!

Images from Minoru Chapel and the park…

And now onto (or rather under and around) the Russ Baker Way bridge…

The group at Iona beach…

One of many shots taken at the beautiful fountain at Mayfair lakes

DeNiro’s brother showed up to crash the party…
